Zone de Texte: A REVIEW ON GEOMATIC TOOLS FOR ASSESSING, INVENTORYING AND MAPPING ALIEN PLANT INVASIONS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN BASIN Zone de Texte: Data Collection Tools - Remote Sensing Zone de Texte: Direct detection The always increasing resolution (geometrical, radiometrical, temporal) of remotely sensed imagery can lead to the conclusion that in the future it will be possible to move from spectral signatures to multitemporal reflectance “fingerprints” of many environmetal objects, including (alien) plant species. In the literature many examples of detection of alien species and invaded communities are reported. Nevertheless, so far, although apparently successful in many cases, this literature is sometimes too optimistic and direct detection of single species is severely limited by a significant array of factors.
