Zone de Texte: Carpobrotus in Minorca: A Historical Background Zone de Texte: Plant first detected on the island in 1824 (Hernández Cardona, 1868) Formerly used as a medicinal plant (Rodríguez, 1874). Soon became a popular garden due to its tolerance of the harsh climatic conditions on the north coast. Expansion of largest populations began less than thirty years ago. The expansion may be favoured by a positive discrimination of the hunters. It is considered to be food supply for the game in the summer. It seems that the main natural dispersal vector are rabbits. There is some incompatibility between Carpobrotus and the presence of cattle.
