First Meeting of the Interim Standards Committee

The 2nd Session of the ICPM in 1999-10 decided that the existing CEPM (Committee of Experts on Phytosanitary Measures) should be replaced as the body developing ISPMs by an 'Interim Standards Committee', but was not able to agree a new composition for the latter. Accordingly, the old membership was maintained, and the experts, instead of meeting for the 7th CEPM, met for the 1st ISC. At this meeting, the EPPO nominated experts were Dr I.M. Smith and Mr I. Fésüs (elected within EPPO to replace Dr J. Rautapää, who had contributed several years of valuable service).

The Committee approved for circulation to Governments for consultation: amendments to the Glossary (ISPM no. 5), the Glossary supplement on official control, guidelines for notifications of non-compliance, guidelines for the preparation of regulated pest lists, format for specifications of ISPMs. It examinated a draft standard 'Guidelines for an import regulatory system', but called on one of the members (Mr Small) to revise it, taking into account also comments and suggestions put forward by A. Pemberton (GB).
